The cultural and educational centre ˝Pokrok˝ (progress) was established in January 16-th, in the year of 1921. For the first time, there was one institution where people could read books and magazines from Czechoslovakia. Books were written in Serbian and Slovakian language. Until today, we don’t know the exact number of books and members, or how much cost membership at that time. In the village Padina, on May the 24th 1923, Reading society was established. Its founder was priest A. Erdeljan. It opened to the public only on March the 1st 1925, under leadership of Gustav Klobusicky. At that time, this society counted 57 members and 115 books. At the beginning of 1958, a Cultural Centre " October the 3rd" was established, that consisted all section of  "Pokrok". After that, the next important step was to establish a library beneath jurisdiction of Culture Centre "October the 3rd". Until 1995, this library had only one employee, who often was busy working in a Culture Centre in the same time. In 1994, library of Culture Centre in Kovacica was separated and transformed in one independent institution, with the new name: Municipal library of Kovacica.

During years 2000, sections from Crepaja, Debeljaca, Padina and Uzdin joined the Library.

Today, Municipal library of Kovacica counts approximately 50.000 books. Nearly 25.000 are located in the main library building in Kovacica. Books are on Serbian and Slovakian language. Last 4 years, all library work is executed on computers. Our sections in Padina, Debeljaca and Crepaja have computers too. We made software called "Aplikacija" for running a business in library. Written in the Microsoft Access, that every computer has, this program is simple and easy to use. Electronic base counted more than 22.000 units, in the end of 2005. Native collection of books was in the 1995 physically separated from other books; it counts 500 units, while work on monographic publication begun only in 2002. Main library of Municipal library Kovacica is located in the centre of Kovacica. The 1921 was important year for the library, when cultural and educational centre "Pokrok" was established; in the year of 1958 Culture Centre “October the 3rd was established, after which a library of Culture Centre was formed. In the year 1994, library was separated and transformed into independent institution called Municipal library Kovacica.
